irgth.net: Photojournalism: Shooting at the local Exxon |

|
There was a shooting at the Exxon gas station on the corner of Portland and Fairbanks in the Eastside neighborhood of Tacoma in the late afternoon of Wednesday July 6, 2005. A local child told me that two men had had an argument, and one of them shot the other. He also told me that I must be Peter Parker. An unidentified neighborhood resident said that the person who had been shot was alive when he was taken away by ambulance. An officer seemed very concerned when I showed up, and repeatedly asked what I was doing. I informed her that I was a freelancer hoping to get a story. Given her demeanor, attitude, and repetitious questions ("what paper are you with"), I am assuming she is a rookie. Shortly after she started talking to me, another officer who seemed to be much more in charge and confident came over. When asked if the Tacoma Police had any statement, he simply stated "no", and asked me to stay clear of the police vehicles. I quickly glanced at his badge, and I believe it said Branham. Later I also spoke to the Forensics guy, and we chatted briefly about cameras. He was also using a 10D. He apologized about not being able to give me any details about the crime scene. These photos were taken as the police were investigating the scene. Other than minor exposure corrections, these images are unmanipulated and uncropped.
